Disable File Sharing

Follow the steps for your operating system, Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard):  

Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Disable Personal File Sharing 

To disable personal file sharing, follow these steps:

  1. Select Apple menu > System Preferences...
  2. Click Sharing in the Internet & Network section.
  3. In the Sharing window, if necessary, click the lock icon and autheticate using the administrator userid and password.
  4. Uncheck the checkbox next to Personal File Sharing
  5. Click the lock icon to prevent further changes and quit System Preferences.

Disable Windows Sharing

To disable windows sharing, follow these steps:

  1. Select Apple menu > System Preferences...
  2. Click Sharing in the Internet & Network section.
  3. In the Sharing window, if necessary, click the lock icon and autheticate using the administrator userid and password.
  4. Uncheck the checkbox next to Windows Sharing.
  5. Click the lock icon to prevent further changes and quit System Preferences.

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) 

To disable file sharing:

  1. Select Apple menu > System Preferences...
  2. Click Sharing in the Internet & Network section.
  3. In the Sharing window, if necessary, click the lock icon and autheticate using the administrator userid and password.
  4. Uncheck the checkbox next to File Sharing.
  5. Click the lock icon to prevent further changes and quit System Preferences.
