Support Statement: Mobile Devices
The following sections outline the details of Computing Services support for Mobile devices.
Terms Used
The following terms are used to describe the level to which Computing Services supports or does not support a service or technology.
Supported - We will provide all reasonable means at our disposal to detect and resolve a problem with the service or technology. Often, we will be able to provide direct assistance for configuration and installation as well as troubleshooting.
Unsupported - We will provide no support for the service or technology as defined above, and we reserve the right to ban the technology should it interfere with supported services.
Recommended - We recommend use of these options when using the service or technology.
Devices
The iPhone, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices are the ONLY supported mobile devices. To connect your mobile device to the campus wireless network, first register it using the FirstConnect site.
Supported
- Email (IMAP) configuration on iPhone, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices.
- Configuration and Andrew calendar synchronization using SyncML software for iPhone and Windows Mobile devices.
Unsupported
- Phone operating systems.
- Phone or carrier selection.
- Issues related to phone coverage or carrier problems.
- Other synchronization software. SyncML is the only supported software.
- Use of ActiveSync.
- Functionality other than email or calendar synchronization.
Recommended
- Create a backup of your Andrew Calendar before you synchronize with your mobile device. Establishing a regular calendar backup routine (weekly) is also a good idea. For more information on exporting appointments and tasks from Andrew Calendar to create a backup see the Andrew Calendar: Export Data document.
- Do NOT create new calendar appointments using your mobile device. Use the Andrew Calendar Desktop or Web client to create and update appointments.
- Do NOT use any other synchronization software. SyncML is the ONLY supported software.
- Do NOT rely on your mobile device to send or delete email messages.
