Mobile Devices

IMPORTANT: Before configuring your mobile device, review the Computing Services Mobile Device Support Statement.

Configuring Email

Mobile devices are a popular way to stay connected to your campus email.  Computing Services supports email (IMAP) configuration on iPhone, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices.

Note: Do NOT rely on your mobile device to send or delete email messages.  You may see inconsistencies in the content of your mail account.

Configure and Synchronize Andrew Calendar

The Andrew Calendar service offers the ability to create personal appointments as well as meetings with other Carnegie Mellon associates.  Synchronizing this calendar with your mobile device can help you stay connected while on the go.  Computing Services currently supports SyncML (calendar synchronization) for iPhone and Windows Mobile devices.

Before you configure and synchronize your mobile device:

  • Create a backup of your Andrew Calendar.  Establishing a regular calendar backup routine (weekly) is also a good idea.  For more information on exporting appointments and tasks from Andrew Calendar to create a backup see the Andrew Calendar: Export Data document.
  • There is a fee for the SyncML software.
  • Do NOT use any other synchronization software.  SyncML is the ONLY supported software.
  • Do NOT create new calendar appointments using your mobile device.   Use the Andrew Calendar Desktop or Web client to create and update appointments.
  • Do NOT use ActiveSync.

Connect to the Campus Network

To connect your mobile device to the campus wireless network, first register it using the FirstConnect site.
