Exporting from Outlook

Follow these steps to export your Outlook Contacts to a file:

  1. With the Outlook mail client open, highlight the Contacts icon (in the Folder list) that you'd like to export your Contacts from.

  2. Select File > Import and Export...
  3. Select Export to a file and then click Next.
  4. Under "Create a File of type" , scroll down and select Tab Separated Values (Windows)...and then click Next.
  5. Under "Select folder to export from" dialog box, accept the default response for the Contacts folder, and then click Next.
  6. Under "Save exported file as..." browse to where you want to save the file (e.g., desktop) and name the file something that makes sense to you (e.g., outlookcontacts.txt" and then click Next.
  7. Under "The Following Actions will be Performed" select Map Custom Fields...

  8. Follow instructions at the top of the dialog box to drag the values from the source file on the left and drop them on the appropriate destination file on the right. If values that you don't want appear on the right, drag them to the left to remove them. Click OK when you've finished mapping your values.
  9. Click Finish. Outlook copies your Contact list to the .txt file that you designated.
