Creating a Personal Folder
To create a personal folder:
- Select INBOX.
- Choose Mailbox > New Mailbox . The New Mailbox window appears.

- Type a name for the new folder and click OK.
Adding a Sent Mail Folder
If you do not have a Sent Mail, first follow the steps for Creating a Personal Folder.
To save a copy of your sent mail messages to a folder:
- Select Mail > Preferences and click the Accounts.
- Click Mailbox Behaviors.

- Choose (check) Store sent messages on server and choose Never from the Delete sent messages when: drop-down.
- Close the Preferences window.
- Choose the folder you want to use for sent mail messages.
- Select Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Sent.
Setting Delete Options
Depending on the settings you've chosen, deleted messages are either moved to the Trash folder, stored on the server or deleted after a chosen time. To change the deleted message preference:
- Choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts.
- Click Mailbox Behaviors.
- Do one or more of the following:
Select "Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox" to move all messages you delete to the Trash. The messages remain in the Trash until the time you specify in the pop-up menu below.
- Choose Store deleted messages on the server to keep deleted messages on your mail server
- Choose Permanently erase deleted messages when and choose how long you want Apple Mail to wait before emptying the Trash mailbox of all your deleted messages.
- Choose the folder you want to use for deleted messages and then select Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Trash.
Note: If you do not have a Trash or Deleted Mail folder, follow the steps for Creating a Personal Folder first.
