Linux Software

Red Hat Linux workstations are located in the following Computing Services clusters: Hunt Library (Lower Level), Morewood Gardens, Wean Hall 5205 and 5207, and West Wing Collaborative. The same software collection is also available on the unix.andrew.cmu.edu pool.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 replaced Andrew Linux in all Computing Services clusters and the unix.andrew.cmu.edu pool. Please see the list of known issues with making the transition to Red Hat Linux if you are experiencing difficulties.

As a result of the unix.andrew.cmu.edu machines being upgraded to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the SSH host key that uniquely identifies each machine has changed.  Upon accessing these machines directly, or via SSH or Terminal, you may receive a message regarding the authenticity of the host not being established, or a message asking if you would like to import a new key.

The following table is a list of software in Linux Clusters as of August 26, 2009.

  • Visit changes this semester to view a summary of changes we made to cluster software for fall 2009.
  • Visit changes next semester to see a summary of changes we plan to make to cluster software for spring 2010.
