Print Quota

An Andrew Printing quota of $40 per semester is granted to all active students, faculty and staff with Andrew accounts and a valid CMU ID card.  The purpose of the print quota is to eliminate waste and encourage users to be conservative in their printing habits.

Check Print Quota

You can check your print quota as follows:

  • All campus affiliates may check their print quota at any print release station or through the Hub ID card services page.
  • Students, as well as faculty or staff members who are registered in SIO, may also check their quota through Student Information Online (SIO) system. Visit SIO and select Campus Life and then select ID+ Card.

Cost per Sheet

The following lists the amount that is DEDUCTED from your print quota.

Note: Although your quota and costs are represented in dollars, it is not actually money--it is simply a convenient way to symbolize your printing costs.

Quota Details

  • The quota takes effect the first day of classes for a given semester through the day prior to the first day of classes for the subsequent semester. Summer session includes the first day of the first summer session through the day before the start of fall classes.
  • Any unused portion of your quota is forfeited the day before classes resume for the subsequent semester - it CANNOT be carried over.
  • Because your quota does not represent actual funds, it cannot be transferred or exchanged.
  • Your quota is charged per sheet of paper, so print double-sided when possible. Some applications (e.g,. PowerPoint) are able to print up to six items per page, double-sided.
  • When printing web pages, use "Page preview" to ensure that your browser doesn't add a blank page.
  • Your quota is debited when you press the Print button at the release station.
  • No refunds will be issued for jammed, defective or cancelled print jobs. However, you may be eligible for a free one-time print job release. Contact the Help Center (412-268-4357 or it-help@cmu.edu) for more information.
  • If you run out of quota in the middle of a print job, the printing system will charge your Campus Xpress account for the remaining pages.
  • Refer to the Andrew Printing FAQ page for helpful information on conserving your quota.

Purchasing Additional Print Quota

Active students, faculty and staff who have exhausted their alloted print quota can add more quota to their CMU ID card through the PlaidCa$h Value Transfer machines. Also, campus guests can purchase a PlaidCa$h card for printing. Please refer to Guest and/or Plaid Ca$h Printing for more information.
