Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my own equipment in the clusters (hard drive, SCSI devices, etc)?
That depends. FireWire Hard Drives can be used. For approval of any other equipment, requests should be submitted via email to clusters+@andrew.cmu.edu indicating course, professor's name, device, and date needed.

Where can I find a (jaz drive, zip drive, color scanner, etc.)?
Please refer to the equipment list for a particular cluster.  These items are listed under the peripherals column.

Do I need to have my CMU ID card with me in the cluster?
Yes! In order to check out materials or make a reservation, you must present a valid CMU ID. If you do not have your ID with you, you may be asked to leave the cluster.

Who can be a CCon?
Any student with good computer troubleshooting and communication skills. If you are interested in becoming a CCon, please apply through TartanTrak. You may also ask a CCon on-duty for more information or assistance.

Can I reserve a computer?
In CFA only. Please see the CFA CCon on-duty to make an individual reservation. Cluster course reservation requests for any academic cluster can be made online. Reservations are held up to 10 minutes past the requested start time before they're considered forfeited.
