Client Services, Head IT Architect, Senior Director
Mark is Head IT Architect and a Senior Director for Computing Services at Carnegie Mellon. In the Head IT Architect role, Mark leads Enterprise Architecture efforts, and spearheads strategic technical and process change for Computing Services. As Senior Director, Mark is responsible for efforts in productivity applications for campus, plus base software configurations for labs and desktop/laptop use. In addition, Mark coordinates the IT service collaboration with the School of Computer Science. Additional duties include representing Carnegie Mellon on the Board of KINBER, the non-profit Pennsylvania Regional Network organization providing high-speed network and network-based services to non-profit organizations in Pennsylvania.
Mark's work experience includes systems administration and IT performance work at AT&T Bell Laboratories, plus systems and network management at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon. While at the SEI in 1988, Mark participated on the charter team of four who formed the original mission and focus of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT). Mark joined Computing Services in 1996 as Director of Systems and Network Development, holding that position until transitioning to Architecture duties in 2001 and adding Senior Director duties in 2013. Mark holds a B.A. in Mathematics from St John's University in Collegeville, MN and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
