Mary L. Pretz-Lawson
Mary L. Pretz-Lawson is head of the Planning and Project Management Office in Computing Services at Carnegie Mellon. In this position, Mary L. is responsible for coordinating and managing the IT advanced planning processes and project management. She manages the processes by which the artifacts (planning templates, project methodology, division service list, etc.) are designed and deployed by staff throughout Computing Services. She directs the team that collects and analyzes information about the computing use by the campus community in order to provide strategic guidance to the division. She facilitated the 2006 revision of the Computing Services strategic plan and monitors progress towards those defined initiatives. In the future, Mary L. will integrate portfolio and project management software tools and pilot centralized versus decentralized project management support models.
Between 1985 and 2002, Mary L. was responsible for university voice services. From 1998 to 2002, she coordinated division wide product releases in DSL, Voice over IP, and wireless LAN service.
Mary L. received her bachelor¹s degree in psychology from Muhlenberg College and her masters in social work and public administration from the University of Pittsburgh. She is active in Educause as a presenter, in the project management constituent group, and formerly on the regional conference program committee. She is a member of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Project Management Institute and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Previous professional activities include Carnegie Mellon¹s Diversity Advisory Council and the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education (ACUTA).
