Charles R. Bartel

Chuck Bartel is director of Network Services at Carnegie Mellon and is project director for the Wireless Andrew (Wi-Fi) project. Chuck is currently responsible for voice, data and CATV network services for the campus and is the Computing Services point person for the university’s new global initiatives. Bartel has served as project director for the campus’ network upgrade and DSL projects. Previous responsibilities include computer operations, computer repair, and retail store and classroom technology.

Chuck is a recognized expert in the area of wireless LANs and has lectured on the subject at EDUCAUSE and Syllabus, as well as at MIT and Harvard. He also served on the EDUCAUSE Evolving Technologies committee as past chair. He is a member of the EDUCAUSE 2006 Program committee and is a voting member of the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. Chuck is also a Frye Fellow and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from Thomas A. Edison State College and a master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon.
