Robing and Procession Information

Sunday, May 20

10 a.m.

Graduates, participating faculty and marshals should report to the appropriate robing location listed below.

10:15 a.m.

Procession of bachelor's and master's candidates begins.

10:50 a.m.

Procession of doctor's candidates, faculty and members of the platform group begins. 

11 a.m.

Ceremony begins.


Faculty marshals and commencement staff will lead each group from their robing location into designated seating sections in Gesling Stadium.

Members of the Platform Group

  • Activities Room, second floor, University Center

Doctor's candidates, department heads, and participating faculty members

  • TV/Rec Room, West Wing

Bachelor of Humanities & Arts, Bachelor of Science & Arts, and Bachelor of Computer Science & Arts (BHA/BSA/BCSA)

  • First floor, Baker/Porter Hall (behind H&SS bachelor's)

Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT)

  • The Carnegie Mellon Café, Resnik House

College of Fine Arts (CFA)

  • Bachelor's: Main lobby, near Kresge Theater, CFA building
  • Master's: Mezzanine level, CFA building

Dietrich College of Humanities & Social Sciences (H&SS)

  • Bachelor's: First floor, Baker Hall

Guidelines for Wearing Academic Regalia

  • Cap is worn straight with the shallow part in the front.
  • Faculty and graduate students wear the tassel on the left.
  • Bachelor’s students wear the tassel on the right and move it to the left after the degree has been conferred.
  • Male graduates and faculty members should remove their caps during the national anthem.
