Robing is for doctor's candidates and faculty hooders. Guests should proceed directly to the ceremony.

Doctor’s Hooding Ceremony

Those graduates receiving their Ph.D.s. will be individually hooded and recognized. Hoods should be worn at the main commencement ceremony on Sunday.

  • The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes.
  • Tickets are not issued or required.
  • Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Seating is first come, first served.
  • Please be aware that the Carnegie Music Hall is not air conditioned. 
  • A reception will immediately follow in the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer.
  • Caps and gowns are required for graduates.
  • Graduates will receive their diplomas at department diploma ceremonies, which take place throughout the weekend. Visit the diploma ceremonies page for a complete schedule.

Photography

  • Guests are encouraged to remain in their seats and enjoy the ceremony.
  • A professional photographer will photograph each candidate after he or she has been hooded.
  • Candidates will receive a free digital proof of this photo within 5-7 days of the ceremony.
