Launching Your Site for the First Time-Templates and CMS - Carnegie Mellon University

Launching Your Site for the First Time

The first time you wish to "go live" with your site, you will need to email the CMS team at least one week prior to launch.  We will finalize the technical details of the launch and review your site for adherence to best practices for both CMU's web presence and the web in general, and will make suggestions to help you align your site with these best practices if necessary.

Let Us Know One Week in Advance

When you are ready to schedule a launch with us, please publish your full site to the staging server and send us the following information:

  • The name of your site
  • Desired launch date, if applicable
  • Preferred URL for your site
  • If this CMS site is replacing an existing site, any additional needs you might have for the transition to the new site (e.g., redirecting old URLs to the new content).

Once You Go Live You Will Stay Live

We will handle the initial launch of your site, but from that point forward you will have the ability to publish content directly to your live site the same way you do for the staging server.  After the launch, you will see one or two additional destinations when publishing. If your site is hosted on www.cmu.edu, these will be www-cmu-1 and www-cmu-2. If your site is hosted on another server, you will see a destination for that server.

Please note that our ability to accommodate site launch requests made with less than one weeks' notice will depend on resource availability.
