How to Publish
There are two methods of publishing your website in the CMS, the Drop-Down Menu method and the Publish Tab method. The best method to use for a publishing job depends on the amount of items you are publishing at once, and what server destinations you are publishing to.
When to Use The Drop-Down Menu
Use the drop-down menu when publishing multiple items, and you wish to publish to all server destinations that are available (do not use this method if your website is live but you would like to publish to the staging server only.)
Step 1: In the folder structure on the left, select the parent folder of the items you wish to publish.
Step 2: On the right side of the screen, check the individual boxes of the items you wish to publish.
Step 3: Select Publish from the drop-down menu at the bottom, confirm the request when prompted.
When to Use the Publish Tab
Use the publish tab when publishing an item (e.g., a page, a folder, or a file), and/or you wish to manually select the publishing destinations (e.g., the staging server only.)
Step 1: In the folder structure on the left, select the item that you wish to publish.
Step 2: On the right side of the screen, select the Publish tab at the top.
Note! Check boxes are disregarded the when the publish tab is used! Check boxes are used for the drop-down menu method of publishing only.
Step 3: On the next page, you will be presented with a list of available publishing destinations (e.g., cms-staging, www.cmu.edu). You may uncheck any of the servers that you do not wish to publish to. Hit the Submit button to proceed with the publish.
After you have submitted a publishing job, you may check its progress in the publishing queue.
