What are Summer Programs?
IMPORTANT! Register for the EXPLORE test to have first priority for any Summer Program class.
Summer Programs are unique because they bring bright students together from
many different schools. Students work hard in an academically stimulating atmosphere. Courses are
hands-on, mentally challenging, and highly enjoyable for the students. Selection for classes is competitive and is based on EXPLORE scores, a teacher recommendation, and academic activities. Students should consider taking the EXPLORE test (although it is not required) to have the best chance to get into the class they would like.
Students in third through eighth grade may attend one or more of
the workshops in June and July on the Carnegie Mellon University campus or in many
areas around the state of Pennsylvania. Programs are one- and two-week long, Monday through Friday. Most classes meet 9 am - 12 noon, but certain classes meet 9 am - 4 pm.
