- Does a student have to take the C-MITES EXPLORE test to participate in
Weekend Workshops?
- No, testing is not required. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
- My child will be taking the EXPLORE test in January. When can he/she begin
taking classes?
- Immediately.
- How are students placed in Weekend Workshops?
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- When will students receive notification about the next session of Weekend
Workshops?
- Fall Weekend Workshop brochures are usually mailed in August. Spring Weekend
Workshop brochures are usually mailed in early January. Sign up for our email list (see
the C-MITES homepage) to receive email notification.
- How do I know my child got into a class?
- Students registering with paper receive an acceptance letter in the mail. Students
registering online receive an email. They do NOT receive a paper acceptance letter.
- When is payment due?
- Two weeks before the first workshop. If payment is not received, the student will
lose his/her place in the class.
- How do I check the status of my online registration?
- Use your username and password to login to view an existing registration. You may
print this page as your confirmation.
- Where do I park at Carnegie Mellon?
- Use the Morewood lot.
- I have a disability. How do I get to the classrooms?
- Call the C-MITES office for more information.
- If students are unable to attend a Weekend Workshop for which they have registered,
can they get they get a refund?
- There is a $20 cancellation fee for all Weekend Workshops. Students canceling
after paying for the class by the Friday one week before the class will receive a
refund less the $20 cancellation fee. If they cancel after the Friday one week before
the class, there will be no refund.
- What if my child is sick for a Weekend Workshop?
- Do not bring a sick child to class. Families providing a doctor's excuse will
receive a full refund.
- My child is on the waiting list for a Weekend Workshop. When will I be notified
if he/she got into the class?
- C-MITES staff members start calling students on the waiting list as soon as
we receive notification of a cancellation.
- Can my child receive financial aid to attend Weekiend Workshops?
- Yes. Students qualifying for the free/reduced cost lunch program at school are
eligible. See the brochure for rates and restrictions.
- Is there a supervised lunch on Saturdays during the Weekend Workshops?
- Yes. Please send your child with a peanut-free sack lunch and one of the C-MITES staff members
will stay with him/her during lunch time and take him to his afternoon class.
- What do I need to bring for Weekend Workshops?
- A peanut-free snack. We usually take a break halfway through class.
- My child is in 3rd grade but really enjoys robots. Can my 3rd grade child
take the 5th grade robot class?
- No. The course is specifically designed for gifted 5-7 graders. Students in those
grades ONLY will be placed in the class
- What happens if the weather is bad for C-MITES classes?
- We will update the telephone message at (412) 268-1629, extension 1. Do not attempt
to drive to class if your local conditions are dangerous.
