Does a student have to take the C-MITES EXPLORE test to participate in Steppingstones?
No.
How are students placed in Steppingstones?
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
How do I know my child got into a class?
Students registering with paper receive an acceptance letter in the mail. Students registering online receive an email. They do NOT receive a paper acceptance letters.
When is payment due?
Two weeks before the first workshop. If payment is not received, the student will lose his/her place in the class.
How do I check on the status of my online registration?
Use your username and password to login to view an existing registration. You may print this page as your confirmation.
If a student must cancel after paying for a Steppingstones class, can he/she get a refund?
There is a $20 cancellation fee for Steppingstones classes. If a student cancels at least one week before the first Steppingstones class, he/she will receive a refund less the $20 cancellation fee. If the student cancels after that date, there will be no refund.
Where do I park at Carnegie Mellon?
Use the Morewood lot on weekends. On weekdays, you may drop your child off along Frew Street. Staff members wearing C-MITES t-shirts meet students starting at 8:45 am. If you prefer to walk your child to class on a weekday, park in the East Campus Garage. There is a fee for parking.
I have a disability. How do I get to the classrooms?
Call the C-MITES office for more information.
My child is on the waiting list for a class. When will I be notified if he/she got into the class?
C-MITES staff members start calling students on the waiting list as soon as we receive notification of a cancellation.
What if my child is sick for a class?
Do not bring a sick child to class. Families providing a doctor's excuse will receive a full refund.
Can my child receive financial aid to attend Steppingstones classes?
Yes. Students qualifying for the free/reduced cost lunch program at school are eligible. See the brochure for rates and restrictions.
What do I need to bring?
A snack for half-day classes or a sack lunch for full-day classes.
Is there a supervised lunch?
Yes. Send your child with a sack lunch. C-MITES staff members stay with students during lunch time.
Where can parents wait during class?
In the lobby of Wean Hall. We do not have a separate parent waiting room.
What happens if the weather is bad for C-MITES classes?
We will update the telephone message at (412) 268-1629, extension 1. Do not attempt to drive to class if your local conditions are dangerous.
Where can I buy a C-MITES t-shirt?
They are for sale at the end of classes in the lobby of Wean Hall.
When will students receive notification about the next session of Steppingstones?
Steppingstones brochures are usually mailed in late May. Sign up for the C-MITES email list (on the C-MITES homepage) to receive an email notification.
