IMPORTANT! Register for the EXPLORE test to have first priority for any Summer Program class. The test is not required.

What is the Elementary Student Talent Search?

Identify academically talented 3rd through 6th graders by giving them a test designed for 8th graders.

Eligibility (meet at least one criterion):

  • Scoring at the 95th percentile or above on at least one section of a standardized test such as the Stanford Achievement Test OR
  • Enrolled in school's gifted program OR
  • Parent nomination OR
  • Student is performing at the top 5% of his or her class
  • Score at the following level for the PSSA:
    • 3rd Grade:     Math = 1657;     Reading = 1618
    • 4th Grade:     Math = 1661;     Reading = 1622
    • 5th Grade:     Math = 1665;     Reading = 1625

The C-MITES EXPLORE test:

  • Two hours in length
  • Multiple-choice
  • Math, Science, English and Reading

Important Dates:

  • November 30, 2009 - deadline to receive discounted rate
  • December 11, 2009 - final deadline for January testing
  • January 15, 2010 - final deadline for February testing
  • January 23, 24 and February 20, 2010 - test dates
  • Late March - results mailed to families

($35 for students on free or reduced-cost lunch)

This fee covers cost of testing, packets of educational materials and resources sent to students, and a subscription to the C-MITES newsletter.
