Bio

Vanessa Vázquez is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., where she focuses on International Development and Immigration Policy. As a first year student at Heinz, she was selected as one of 50 Americans to participate in the Young Leader’s Dialogue with America in Prague, sponsored by the U.S. State Department and the International Institute of Education, in November 2010. Vanessa interned in Montevideo, Uruguay, during the summer 2011 as the Partnership, Coordination and Marketing Implementation Lead for TechBridgeWorld’s iSTEP (Innovative Student Experience) program, which uses technology for development.

Prior to pursuing graduate studies, Vázquez spent four years working with immigrant families in Northern California on community transformation, where she worked on a variety of social and academic development projects with youth involving many community partners.  Vázquez graduated with a double major in Political Science and Peace & Justice Studies from Tufts University in 2006. As a CIPI Research Associate, her work focuses on the issue of preventing electoral violence in sub-Saharan Africa.
