Facebook acquires Pittsburgh-based Mobile Technologies LLC
A Pittsburgh-based speech translation company announced Monday that an acquisition by Facebook will send them to the social-networking giant's Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters next year.
Mobile Technologies LLC, an East Liberty-based mobile speech translation company, announced in a press release that it will be acquired by Facebook for an undisclosed figure.
Founded in 2001 by Carnegie Mellon University computer science professor Alex Waibel, Mobile Technologies product line includes Jibbigo, a speech-to-speech translator for smartphones and tablets and an automatic interpretation service designed for educational settings.
The company extended thanks to Carnegie Mellon University and to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology for its assistance in creating its products and noted that it's mission to advance language technologies falls in line with Facebook's future plans...Read more»
