AND ADVANCE PLANNING
Is prior
Dalcroze experience required for Workshop participation?
Classes will be taught at Beginner,
Intermediate and Advanced levels. No prior Dalcroze experience
is necessary.
What
is included in the registration fee?
Included in the registration fee are
a sponsored ID card, Conference T-shirt, group
photo, and Opening reception,
continental breakfast on Monday, July 7, 2008, Tuesday evening folk dancing,
July 8th and the dinner time picnics on July 10th and July 24th, 2008.
Will there be special evening events?
The
Opening Event and Reception on Sunday, July 6, at 7:30 PM and International
Folk Dancing on Tuesday evening, July 8th
and evening picnics on Thursdays, July 10th and July 24th,
2008.
Are events planned for the weekends?
Weekends are free for relaxation,
practice, shopping, or sightseeing. Go to http://www.visitpittsburgh.com for information
on the Pittsburgh area.
What should I wear?
Bring casual clothing suitable
for movement. Be prepared
to move in bare feet or soft non-skid slippers. Pittsburgh
can be very hot and humid in July. Because of air-conditioning in some buildings, dressing in
layers is advisable.

CLASSES, COURSEWORK, AND EXAMS
Where will classes take place?
Classes
will be in the University Center, Margaret Morrison Building, or College
of Fine Arts Building.

May I record
any of the sessions?
Recording
by any means, analog or digital (audio, video, laptop computer, ipod, etc.)
is strictly prohibited.
I have limited piano skills. Will I take piano improvisation?
Piano improvisation classes will
be grouped according to piano facility and improvisation experience. Jazz piano and jazz vocal improvisation
are also offered as options.
Will
there be an opportunity to observe children's classes?
Some
children's classes will
be scheduled during afternoon Pedagogy sessions. Participants may observe Saturday morning classes in the Carnegie
Mellon Music Preparatory School by special arrangement. Contact Judi
Cagley for more details.
Who is eligible to take Certificate exams?
A
minimum of two summer sessions of Workshop II, totaling 18 units or 6 credits
must be successfully completed before applicants are elligible to take the
required exams for the Dalcroze Certificate.

FACILITIES, HOUSING, AND MEALS
Are practice facilities available?
Participants
will have access to most piano practice rooms in the College of Fine Arts building. In the past, some participants have brought
portable keyboards for practice in the dormitory. Earphones should be used.

Will I have access to the Internet during the workshop?
Yes. A guest account will grant
access to the internet and use of campus computer facilities. You will be able to use your personal
laptop by following a simple registration process when you arrive on campus.
Are meals available on campus?
A
variety of prepared food is available for purchase on campus or within easy
walking distance. Meals are not included in the housing
fee.
Are cooking facilities available?
Each
dormitory suite has a microwave and small refrigerator. Each
dormitory has at least one full kitchen. Carnegie Mellon has a strictly
enforced 'no-open-flame' policy. Food
markets are accessible by public transportation. There
is also a convenience store located in the University Center building.
Is there a fitness complex/gym area on the CMU campus that
I will be able to access in the evenings and/or on weekends?
Carnegie Mellon University offers state-of-the-art facilities
for all students and faculty to use. Our indoor pool, aerobic rooms,
weight rooms, exercise machines, basketball, racquet ball & squash
courts are located in the University Center. The football field and tennis
courts are located centrally on campus. Your Dalcroze Training Center
ID will give you free access to all recreational facilities.

How do I get to the Carnegie Mellon University Campus
from the airport?
Transportation
from the airport to Carnegie Mellon can be accessed by taxi, hotel shuttle,
car rental,
airport express, or the 28X shuttle bus. Click HERE for

The lowest price
transportation from the airport is the 28X Shuttle Bus. It can be boarded directly outside the

Is On-campus Parking available?
Parking
permits are available in the East garage for $55 per week, with 24/7 overnight
privileges for dormitory residents. You must reserve On-campus Parking through
the Online Housing Registration site.
