University Professor Jacobo Bielak Elected to National Academy of Engineering
University Professor Jacobo Bielak has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), recognized for advancing knowledge and methods in earthquake engineering and in regional-scale seismic motion simulation.
Professor Bielak joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty in
1978 and received the honor of University Professor in 2009. He completed
his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at the National University
of Mexico, his M.S. in Civil Engineering at Rice University and his Ph.D
in Civil Engineering at California Institute of Technology.
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest
professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership
honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering
research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature, and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.
