The Arts Greenhouse is a hip-hop music education program that serves Pittsburgh teens through music technology classes, music recording projects, hip-hop performances, and workshops on special topics relating to hip-hop. Currently the Arts Greenhouse holds classes at Carnegie Mellon, records with the School of Music, and organizes workshops in various locations in and near Pittsburgh. Participants may schedule time in the Carnegie Mellon School of Music Recording Studio. Every semester project organizers distribute a music album featuring work produced by participants in the program. The Arts Greenhouse reserves a non-exclusive right to distribute all music created with the program for promotional purposes, or for fund raising. The Arts Greenhouse began as a community project of the Center for the Arts in Society and after its successful launch several years of operation, it moved to a new home at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry.
