What is a Last-Minute Interview?
The Career and Professional Development Center encourages employers to fill every slot on their interview schedule while here on campus. Occasionally, organizations who are interviewing on campus have a last-minute cancellation from a student interviewee, or all the students they invite do not sign up for an interview. This creates empty interview slots on their schedules. Because these empty slots are not apparent until approximately 24-hours before a company's arrival, we refer to them as "Last-minute Interviews".
How does the Career and Professional Development Center help fill these empty slots?
In order to help our recruiters fill their schedules at the last minute, the Career and Professional Development Center emails out these opportunities to interested students, inviting them to drop off a resume for review. We then give the resumes to the recruiters when they arrive on campus and encourage them to pick students to fill these empty slots. The Career and Professional Development Center staff then call and/or email the chosen students to extend the invitation to interview. This typically happens the morning of the interview schedule.
How do I get on the list to receive the Last-minute Interview Opportunity emails?
The option to receive these emails is part of your privacy profile in TartanTrak. Login to TartanTrak and click on the "Profile" tab, then the "Privacy" sub-tab. Choose "yes" for the "Last-minute Interview Opportunities Email" option. For more information or assistance, please email email@example.com.
What will happen once I sign up to receive the emails?
Whenever the Career and Professional Development Center is aware of an empty interview slot, an email will be sent to all students who requested this service, with instructions on how to apply. The application process is:
1. Print the email and attach a resume (and cover letter if applicable) for each employer in which you have interest
2. Write your name, cell phone number, and email on the form
3. Circle the employer to which you are submitting this form (one form per employer please!)
4. Circle the available slot that is most convenient for you (you may circle more than one)
5. Place the form (with attach resume and/or cover letter) in the Tartan Plaid box in the reception area of the Career Center.
How will I know if I am selected?
The Career and Professional Development Center removes all applications from the box at 5:30pm each evening and distributes them to recruiters at the earliest opportunity (either at an information session or when they arrive for their first interview in the morning). Employers will select the students they wish to interview
and a Career Center staff member will contact the students (via both phone and email if the student provides both) to confirm appointments.
What if I am not dressed appropriately for an interview and do not have time to change before the offered timeslot?
Both the recruiters and the Career and Professional Development Center staff understand this is a last-minute arrangement. Please accept the offered appointment and come to the career center "as is".
What if I can't make the offered slot?
The times available are very limited -- the Career and Professional Development Center will do everything to help chosen students fit into schedules, but we can not guarantee many options for interview times.
Is the list of "Last-Minute Interview Opportunities" available in the Career and Professional Development Center?
No, the only way to receive notification of these opportunities is to sign up in TartanTrak (see above).
Is the "Last-Minute Interview Opportunities" sign-up form available in the Career and Professional Development Center?
No, you must print the form and bring it with you.
What if I miss the 5:30pm deadline?
You are welcome to stop by and drop off the form, but we can not guarantee it will be given to the recruiter if you miss the 5:30pm deadline.
