Be Inspired at Homecoming

Homecoming 2009

By Tim Liu (HS ’85), ACS Executive Board Liaison to the Alumni Association

Have you been to Homecoming recently? Or ever?

A few years ago, I went to my very first Homecoming, and I did not know what to expect. During the course of the weekend, I reconnected with several classmates and saw a few professors who remembered me. But having graduated 20 years earlier, you would have been as shocked as I was to see me marching around the football field with my fellow classmates from the ’80s.

However, the biggest surprise of all came during the first evening of Homecoming weekend. That is when I became truly inspired by the accomplishments of my fellow alumni.

I am referring to the Alumni Awards, Carnegie Mellon's very own version of a “night at the Oscars.” Each year, deserving alumni are recognized for their outstanding achievements in their professional endeavors and for their service to Carnegie Mellon.

At each Alumni Awards ceremony I have attended, I am moved while listening to the accomplishments and the heartfelt gratitude of the award honorees.

These individuals are the best of our best and brightest. They are role models, encouraging others to excel in their professions and in the alumni community. They are changing the world and making it a better place. Their passion is contagious, capturing the minds, souls, and hearts of their peers, as well as everyone in the audience.

Please join me this year at the Alumni Awards ceremony on Friday, October 30.

Be inspired. Celebrate the contributions of this year's honorees, and take pride in your fellow members of the Carnegie Mellon community.
