On October 24, 2008, Carnegie Mellon announced the public phase of its Comprehensive Campaign. More than 2,000 students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends attended the Celebrate Our Future event, aimed at sharing the campaign priorities including: retaining and enhancing a world-class faculty; supporting a new generation of student innovators; sustaining a foundation of excellence; and enhancing an innovative environment.
Most guests started the evening by walking through the exhibit space, a 6,000 square-foot area showing videos about Carnegie Mellon research, as well as interactive exhibits focusing on projects like Games with a Purpose, Gigapan and Winds of Orbis.
Moving into the band tent, guests enjoyed music by five Carnegie Mellon-affiliated bands: The River City Brass Band, Cellofourte, Idiot Boyfriend (alumni band), Tim Ruff Trio (student band) and The Billy Price Band. Between the bands, University president Jared Cohon joined campaign chairman Raymond Lane in announcing the current progress of more than $500 million toward the $1 billion campaign goal.
The evening ended with a moving pyrotechnics display, complete with music and a light show. To view the videos from the event, visit Carnegie Mellon on YouTube.
Carnegie Mellon will be traveling around the country, visiting alumni, parents and friends in numerous cities. Check out Alumni Association’s events website to find an event near you, and mark your calendars if you live in the NYC or San Francisco areas for these two campaign event dates:
