Course Overview

Computing@Carnegie Mellon is a 3-unit, pass/fail mini course that all undergraduate students must successfully complete in order to graduate. The course runs for half a semester (7 weeks) and must be taken during a student's first year on campus. The purpose is to give you the skills that you will need to be successful in your basic, introductory courses.

The curriculum topics are determined in partnership with the C@CM Advisory Committee. The committee members include senior campus leaders, deans and department heads from each academic and administrative unit, including the Vice and Associate Provosts for Education, the Chief Information Officer. Input is also elicited from faculty and students through the course evaluations and focus groups.

Through C@CM and the other educational programs offered by Academic Technology Services, we will teach you how to make safe and responsible decisions for using technology, as well as strategies and conceptual skills that can be translated across electronic resources and emerging technologies.

Since its inception in 1989, Computing@Carnegie Mellon has supported the university's teaching and learning needs by providing training on university-specific technologies and commonly used tools.
