How to zip files

Zipping files on a PC

    Creating .zip files on a PC
    Locate your file in the finder window and right-click on it. A shortcut menu should appear providing a selection option such as "Add to Zip file" or "Add to Archive". Select an option from the menu to create the .zip file.

    Unzip a file
    To unzip a file, right-click on the .zip file, and then click Extract on the shortcut menu.

    Zip utilities
    A number of zip utilities are available for the PC including: StuffIt for the PC, WinZip, PentaZip, PKZip, and PowerArchiver.

    Creating .zip files on a Mac
    To create a .zip compressed file, locate your file in the finder window and then "control"-click on the file. A shortcut menu shoud appear providing a selection option such as "Compress" or "Create Archive". Select an option from the dropdown menu to create the .zip file.

    Unzip a file
    Double-click on the .zip file to automatically uncompress it.

    Zip utilities
    A number of zip utilities are available for the Mac including StuffIt.
