Adding, Grading, Downloading, and Clear Attempt

Navigate to a Content Area where you wish to add an Assignment

  1. Navigate to a Content Area in your Blackboard course by clicking on a course menu item.
  2. Click the "EDIT VIEW" link located in the upper right corner of the content page.

  3. NOTE: You can optionally navigate to a Content Area using the "Control Panel".
     Select a content area from within the control panel.

Add an "Assignment"

  1. Using the the "Add" action menu, click on the drop-down menu (located on the far right of the menu bar).
  2. Select "Assignment" from the menu list and then click the "Go" button.

  3. On the "Add Assignment" page, enter a name for the assignment, points possible, and instructions for students.

  5. Select options for making the assignment available to students.

  6. (Optional) Click "Browse" to attach files to the assignment and then title the link that the students will see and click to access the attachment.
  7. Click "Submit".
  8. The Assignment will be automatically added (as the last column) in your Grade Center spreadsheet.

Grade Assignments and Provide Student Feedback

  1. In the Grade Center spreadsheet, mouse over the grade item cell for the assignment you wish to grade and click on the down-arrow icon to expose the menu options for the grade item.

     
  2. Select "Grade Details" from the dropdown menu.
  3. From the Grade Details page, you can download student-submitted files, enter a grade value, enter comments or feedback, attach any files for the student, and add instructor notes and files:
    • Feedback entered for students will be visible to them in the student's view of "My Grades".
    • Information entered into the "instructor notes" area will be visible only to instructors and TAs.

Download & View Assignments

    To download some or all student submitted files for a particular assignment:

  1. From the Control Panel, select "Grade Center".
  2. In the Grade Center spreadsheet, locate the grade column heading for the assignment.
  3. Click the down-arrows icon on the assignment column heading to expose the grade column menu options.
  4. Select "Assignment File Download".

  5. On the Assignment File Download page, use the selection options (all, ungraded, individual student) to select the student files you wish to download.
     
  6. Click "Submit". A .zip file containing all of the selected assignment files is prepared for download.
     
  7. Click the "Download assignments now" link to save the file to your desktop.
     

     
  8. Your computer will need a utility such as WinZip or Stuffit in order to open the file.
  9. Open the .zip file you saved to your computer. A folder containing the student files will be available for review and grading.
     
    NOTE: You may also see that student "comments" is stored in a separate file from the student submitted/attached files.

Clear a Student's Attempt

    If a student experiences a problem while submitting an assignment, instructors can clear the student's attempt in order to allow that student to re-submit the assignment.

    To clear a student's attempt to submit an Assignment:

  1. Navigate to the Grade Center from the Control Panel.
  2. Rollover the grade cell associated with that particular student's assignment and click on the down-arrows icon to expose the cell options menu.
  3. Select "Grade Details" from the dropdown menu.
  4. On the Grade Details page, click the "Clear Attempt" button.
