Lab aide
A typical entry-level position for freshmen and sophomores. In this position, you will learn to prepare solutions, use equipment and to follow general lab procedures. Many labs require all students to spend at least one semester as a lab aide.
Research assistant
In this position you will be assigned a mentor. This could be the professor, a graduate student, a research associate or senior undergraduate.
Funding options for the Academic Year (fall and spring)
Volunteer work
You only get the satisfaction of a job well done (while impressing others). Freshmen and sophomores may volunteer to prove themselves capable of working in a lab.
Academic credit
Research in lab can be used as electives towards your degree. Please discuss credit options with Dr. Burnette and Dr. Burkert, as well as your professor/mentor. You cannot earn money while earning credit.
Work study
Students eligible for work study can join a lab as an aide to fulfil work study requirements.
HHMI Undergraduate Research Program
The HHMI Undergraduate Science Education Program seeks to strengthen education in the biological sciences and other scientific disciplines as they relate to biology. View the HHMI website for now details.
SURG
Small Undergraduate Research Grants are university-wide grants available from the Undergraduate Research Office (URO). These funds are for lab supplies and come with presentation requirements. Once starting in the lab you should read this website and submit applications by the deadline.
