Since 1989, undergraduate curriculum and research relating to biological sciences in the Mellon College of Science has been supported by a grant from the Undergraduate Science Education Program of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).

Information on three components of the HHMI program is available here.

Project Support: Faculty may apply for support of an undergraduate research project at any time during the year. Support may consist of wages (normally available only to workstudy-eligible students) or a modest reseach supply allowance, but not ordinarily both. The online application can be found here.

Publication Awards: Faculty may nominate a student who has completed a publishable body of work. Download the Application Form (PDF)

Presentation Awards: Students who will be presenting their research at a scientific meeting may apply for funds to cover registration, travel and housing. Forms are available in the MCS Dean's office.
