GRE Information

The GRE is often required as part of a student’s application for graduate training programs in programs ranging from traditional Ph.D. programs (i.e. Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology or Chemistry)  to Masters level programs (i.e. Genetic Counseling or Health Care Policy and Management) .  The General Test measures verbal and quantitative reasoning as well as critical thinking and writing skills.  Most programs only require the General Test, but some programs also require a GRE Subject Test as well.  Check with each school’s individual program websites for requirements.

While the GRE is part of the total application, it is still a key factor in graduate admissions and should be taken seriously.  Please see Dr. Maggie Braun for more information on the overall graduate admissions process, as well as preparation materials for the GRE test, which are available on loan from the Biology Department offices.

NSF Fellowship

Eligibility

• Are a US citizen, US national or permanent resident alien, and
• Are a graduating senior; have completed a B.S./B.A. degree; or are in their 1st year or the first semester of their 2nd year in graduate school, and
• Are pursuing a research-based master's or doctoral degree in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields supported by NSF.

Gilliam Fellowship

Eligibility

• Past participants in the HHMI Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP); must be graduating seniors or recent baccalaureate recipients (within two years) who have completed no more than one year of Ph.D. training.
• Former EXROP students pursuing an M.D./Ph.D. degree may apply, but fellowship supports only Ph.D. portion of the studies.
• No citizenship requirement.
