Benefits to Beckman Scholars

Beckman Scholars will receive 12 units of academic credit in each of the Fall and Spring semesters, and will be enrolled in the Honors degree program. This involves preparation of a written Honors thesis in the Spring of the senior year and an oral presentation in the Honors Symposium. In preparation, Scholars will receive training in the use of modern tools for preparation of talks (students have the option of giving their presentation using a computer projection system at the Symposium). To encourage involvement of students in preparing their own research for publication, Scholars will be eligible for HHMI Publication Awards of $500 upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication in a refereed journal.

Scholars receive a $5,500 scholarship for each summer and a $3,600 scholarship for the intervening academic year. Funds for research expenses and student travel to scientific meetings are also provided.
