Department Head Elizabeth W. Jones Wins First "Excellence in Education" Award from the Genetics Society of America
The Genetics Society of America has bestowed its first "Excellence in Education Award" to Elizabeth Jones, head of Biological Sciences and the Frederick A. Schwertz Distinguished University Professor of Life Sciences. The award recognizes "individuals who have had a significant impact on genetics education from kindergarten to post-graduate level." She was awarded a $1.5 million Howard Hughes Medical Institute award in June of 2006 to further interdisciplinary studies in biological sciences training.
