Graduate Students Rebecca Webb and Melissa Witzberger Win Departmental Teaching and Service Awards

Graduate Students Rebecca Webb and Melissa Witzberger Win Departmental Teaching and Service AwardsTwo graduate students received awards for their service to the Department of Biological Sciences in the past academic year. Rebecca Webb, fifth year graduate student in Dr. Brooke McCartney’s laboratory, was presented the Graduate Student Teaching Award. Webb served as teaching assistant for Dr. Charles Ettensohn’s Developmental Biology class during the fall of 2005 and 2006. "Becky was a terrific teaching assistant. She was well-organized, accessible to the students, knowledgeable and energetic," stated Ettensohn in support of her nomination.

Melissa Witzberger, third year graduate student working in Dr. Jonathan Minden’s laboratory, was recognized for her exceptional work for the Department by being awarded the Graduate Student Service Award. Ken Hovis, another third year student who nominated her, stated that Witzberger has “been extremely involved with student mentoring, each of the recruitment weekends, and organizing many other graduate student functions… Melissa has strived to be a leader and organizer…and has demonstrated above and beyond service to our department, university and graduate student body.”
