Black Graduate Student Organization at Carnegie Mellon
The Black Graduate Student Organization is intended to serve the needs of African American and Hispanic/Latino graduate students at Carnegie Mellon. This organization provides a support network for these students, develops programs to reach out into the Pittsburgh community, highlights networking opportunities and fosters relationships with alumni.

Bridgespotters
Pittsburgh's local hip hop art collective.

Onyx Alliance
This organization focuses on retaining and attracting young African Americans to Pittsburgh with frequent events and programs aimed at improving their quality of life.

Many a distinguished pastor has led the caring congregation of this church, which is one of the bedrocks of Pittsburgh's Hill District neighborhood. Outreach activities are available at the Macedonia Church for men, women and children, and a Christian bookstore is located in the basement. Part of the church was built over Ammons Field, which was the ballpark of the Pittsburgh Crawfords, the famous Negro League baseball team. Sunday worship is at 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Historical Sites

Freedom Corner Memorial

Corner of Centre Avenue and Crawford Street

This monument began as a protest site in the 1950s when Downtown development encroached on the lower Hill district, which is a traditional African American neighborhood. Protesters posted signs at this corner that said "NO REDEVELOPMENT BEYOND THIS POINT." They were moderately successful at preserving housing for African Americans in the area.
