Faculty Positions

Tenure Track Faculty Position in Innovative Fluorescence Technologies for Biological Applications
The Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the associate professor or professor level. Preference will be given to individuals developing state-of-the-art technologies to address fundamental biological questions at the cellular and molecular level. Of particular interest are candidates that employ develop novel fluorescent probes or other sensitive and rapid detection tools and apply them to challenging biomedical problems directly and through collaborations. The development of new generations of biosensors for understanding molecular pathways in living cells and tissues has been a focus area at CMU for 31 years. Methods for single molecule studies, on one end, and high throughput data acquisition on the other are of interest. Candidates have an opportunity to participate in Carnegie Mellon’s existing Molecular Biosensors and imaging Center (http://www.mbic.cmu.edu/), NMR Center, computational biology program, chemistry, biology and biomedical engineering. In addition, Carnegie Mellon is strongly committed to expanding its interdisciplinary research efforts in neurobiology and computational biology and has made significant investments in imaging, automation and animal-use infrastructure. The candidate will join a growing and highly interactive life-sciences community at Carnegie Mellon and the nearby University of Pittsburgh.

Carnegie Mellon offers highly competitive salaries and start-up packages in an attractive urban environment. Interested candidates should submit curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, reprints, and three letters of recommendation via https://apps.bio.cmu.edu/facultySearch/.

Tenure Track Faculty Position - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in Biology
The Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant, associate or full professor level. Candidates are expected to interface to Carnegie Mellon’s Pittsburgh NMR Center for Biomedical Research (http://www.cmu.edu/nmr-center). Preference will be given to individuals developing state-of-the-art imaging science and technology to address fundamental biological questions at the cellular and molecular level using in vivo MRI. The development of new generations of imaging probes, exploitation of novel image contrast mechanisms, and/or computationally-intensive approaches are viewed as key areas of interest. The NMR Center is a well-established facility with a comprehensive infrastructure for conducting innovative MR research in animal models. The Center currently maintains three Bruker MRI systems. Carnegie Mellon is strongly committed to expanding its interdisciplinary research efforts in imaging science and has made significant investments in imaging and animal-use infrastructure. The candidate will join a growing and highly interactive life-sciences imaging community at Carnegie Mellon and the nearby University of Pittsburgh.
