From the South

  1. Take Interstate 79 North to 279 North (Pittsburgh).
  2. Follow 279 North toward Pittsburgh through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto the Fort Pitt Bridge.
  3. Once on the bridge, stay in the far right lanes and follow signs for 376 East/Monroeville.
  4. Take 376 East to Exit 5, Forbes Avenue/Oakland.
  5. Stay in the right-hand lanes, following Forbes Avenue for about 1 mile through the Oakland business district.
  6. Both lanes will turn left on Bellefield Avenue. Follow Bellefield to Fifth Avenue and turn right. The Department of Biological Sciences is located in Mellon Institute, at 4400 Fifth Avenue.
