Frequently Asked Questions

What is stacked parking, and how does it work?
Stacked parking is not a valet service, but a service where your vehicle will be stacked in rows according to the time that you will leave campus. Your keys will only be taken if necessary (i.e., if you need to leave early, emergency situation). There will a phone in the booth and you can contact them prior to picking up your vehicle. Stacked parking will presently operate from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If we find that these times do not work, then we will modify them to accommodate. If you are parked in the stacked parking area and your keys were taken for any reason, all keys can be picked up in the East Campus Garage Security Guard’s office.

What are the changes in the Dithridge Street Garage? And as a Carnegie Mellon employee, will I be able to retain my permit there for the 06-07 year?
Carnegie Mellon acquired the Dithridge (SEI) garage on June 30, 2006. Carnegie Mellon’s Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) will now operate the garage, and our plan is to operate it in the same manner as the East Campus garage. This requires the implementation of new gate technology. Until new gate equipment arrives and is installed (summer 2007), the garage will be staffed 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate leaseholders and hourly parkers. From 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends, the garage will be available to leaseholders only. Carnegie Mellon security guards will continue to patrol the garage as they have previously. Once the new equipment has arrived and been installed in 8-10 weeks, there will not be regular attendants at the garage.

As a CMU employee you will be able to retain your lease within the garage, but it is necessary for you to apply online by visiting our website. As a CMU employee you qualify to have your lease payment taken out via payroll deduction.
