University Programs

University Programs at Carnegie Mellon is comprised of Aquatics, Fitness, Intramurals and Physical Education classes. Facilities comprise of the University Center, Gesling Stadium and the intramural field, and Skibo Gymnasium.

Mike Mastroianni - Assistant Director of Athletics for University Programs, Director of Intramural and Club Sports

Mike Mastroianni Mike has had a distinguished 21 year tenure at Carnegie Mellon. He started as the Assistant Director of Intramurals and was promoted to Director of Intramurals and Club Sports in 1996. Mastroianni has also assisted with the men's basketball team and directed the club sport program from his appointment. 

Mike's responsibilities include overseeing intramurals, club sports, aquatics, fitness, physical education and facility scheduling of Skibo Gym and Gesling Stadium.  He is also involved with the scheduling of intramural events.

A graduate of Slippery Rock, Mike has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and Master of Science in sports management also from Slippery Rock.

Prior to his 2006 promotion to Assistant Director of Athletics, Mike was a physical education instructor for 20 years teaching basketball and various other sports.

Mike also has over 23 years of basketball coaching experience at both the collegiate and high school level.

Mike Grzywinski - Assistant Director of Intramurals

Mike Grzywinski Mike Grzywinski is a Carnegie Mellon graduate who has been the Assistant Director of Intramurals for 11 years and previously worked in the office as a student. 

Grzywinski is responsible for scheduling intramural activities and assists with the scheduling of facilities and club sports. Some of his duties include supervising all evening activities, scheduling officials and writing all publication materials for intramurals and club sports.

During his time on staff at Carnegie Mellon, Mike has also helped with game management for varsity events.

Donna Morosky - Director of Fitness

Donna MoroskyDonna Morosky has been the Director of Fitness for the Department of Athletics for 19 years. Prior to becoming the director of fitness, Morosky was the men's and women's swimming coach and a health educator for Carnegie Mellon.

Morosky is responsible for the development of all programs associated with recreational fitness and spends time administering, monitoring, and purchasing equipment and teaching classes. She is also the director for the group exercise program. These programs include 30+ fitness classes a week and have an instructor pool of about 15.

Donna has her bachelor's degree in health, physical education and recreation from Slippery Rock University and a master's equivalency in education. She is certified in aquatics, weight training, step, yoga, children fitness, cycling, personal training, nutritional counseling, and other fitness lifestyle activities.

In the spring, Morosky will be teaching areobic fitness and spinning.

Sara Pomaybo - Director of Aquatic Activities

Sara PomayboSara Pomaybo was appointed Director of Aquatic Activities in 2005. As the director, Pomaybo supervises all aspects of aquatics and is responsible for all maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas.

Sara teaches various aquatic classes for the physical education department including swim-fit in the fall of 2007. Together with teaching, Pomaybo runs the entire learn to swim program for adults and children. 

Pomaybo is certified in safety for swim coaches, lifeguard training, CPR, first aid, AED, WSI, pool operations, and pesticide applications.

In addition to administering all aspects of a comprehensive aquatic program, Pomaybo is the assistant men's and women's swimming coach where she is responsible for all aspects of coaching.

Pomaybo graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in health, physical education and aquatics where she was a member of the swim team and holds her master's degree in education from Gannon University. Currently, Pomaybo is pursuing a master's degree in sports leadership at Duquesne University.

Pattye Stragar - Assistant Director of Fitness and Operations Manager

Pattye StragarPattye Stragar is in her fourth year with the Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics. She graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in coaching and secondary education and earned her master's degree in physical education from Ithaca College.

Since 2003, Pattye is certified in Zumba, jump stretch, group step, health & fitness for the 21st century, spinning, profile designs & heart rate games, sports nutrition, yoga fundamentals, group strength, kick boxing, aquatic exercise, personal training and deep water exercise.

Pattye teaches physical education classes including fitness fusion, aqua at both ends, adult swimming, beginning tennis and beginning golf.

Stragar is a certified lifeguard, certified in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, certified pool operator, registered with Allegheny County as a public bathing place operator and has a catagory 24 pesticide certification.

Prior to working at Carnegie Mellon, Pattye was the women's gymnastics coach, sychronized swimming advisor, cheerleading advisor, women's intramural director, taught physical education classes & private lessons in golf and tennis at Northwestern University.
