Joan Maser - Associate Director of Athletics
Joan Maser, a member of the Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics since 1981, is in her 14th year as Associate Director of Athletics. Among her many responsibilities are scheduling and coordinating the travel arrangements for Carnegie Mellon's various varsity sports teams and overseeing the budget for the entire department of athletics.
Maser came to Carnegie Mellon from the Southwest Butler County School District, where she was a physical education instructor and head athletic trainer. From 1981-84 she was Carnegie Mellon's head women's field hockey coach and a physical education instructor. In 1984 she was promoted to assistant director of athletics before becoming associate director in 1991. She also served as an assistant athletic trainer from 1981-1991.
Maser, a native of Lititz, Pa., received her bachelor's degree in health and physical education and her National Athletic Trainers Association Certification from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979. She earned her master's degree in physical education and exercise physiology from Pitt in 1983.
Maser is an active member of the Tri-State Intercollegiate Association and serves as its treasurer. She is involved with Pittsburgh Cares, which provides volunteers to various groups and organizations in the Pittsburgh area. She is also an at-large member of the executive committee and on the awards committee of the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators.
