Tartans Start Well in Opening Meet Versus Clarion

Oct. 31 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team opened its season at the University Center Pool with an impressive performance despite an 181-117 loss to Division II Clarion University Saturday afternoon. The Tartans won five different events during the meet with junior Molly Evans (Butler, Pa.) taking three titles.

Evans won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events as well as the 200-yard IM. Her times were 59.28, 2:08.55 and 2:12.03, respectively.

Also picking up a first-place finish was senior Sara Andrews (Washington, Pa./Trinity) in the 200-yard freestyle and freshman Dorothy Yu (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Andrews finished the freestyle in 1:59.99 and Yu touched the wall in 2:26.20.

Yu also had a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.48 as fellow freshman Breanna Stillo (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) touched third in 1:08.95.

Picking up two second-place finishes was sophomore Victoria Adams (Rutherford, N.J.) in the distance freestyles. She finished the 1,000-yard event in 10:58.33 and the 500-yard event in 5:22.93.

In diving, sophomore Olivia DeFazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished third on the 1-meter board and fourth on the 3-meter board.

The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, November 14 with they visit Grove City College.
