Tartans Lose at #5 Rochester

Jan. 22 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball traveled to Rochester, New York to play the 5th-ranked Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester Sunday, January 22. The Tartans fell by the score of 74-29 to Rochester moving their record to 6-10, 0-5 while the Yellowjackets remain unbeaten at 16-0, 5-0.
Carnegie Mellon’s sophomore
Jacquie Shaw (Portland, Ore./Grant) scored the first four points of the game while the Tartans grabbed a 6-0 lead after 2:27 of action. Over the next nine minutes, Rochester went on a 13-2 run before junior
Emily Peel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) put a stop to it with the traditional three-point play making the score 13-11 with eight minutes to play in the half.
Rochester drained five shots from behind the arc following Peel’s three-point play which sparked another run, this time 22-2 as the teams headed into the locker room with the Yellowjackets leading 35-13.
The Yellowjackets opened the second half where they left off and extended their run to 28-2 taking a 41-13 lead two minutes into the half. Rochester continued to have control of the game claiming a 7429 victory.
Carnegie Mellon shot 19% from the floor to Rochester’s 44%. Shaw and junior
Elissa Goldner (Somers, N.Y./The Ursuline School) led the Tartans with eight points each.
The Tartans will continue their four game UAA road trip when they travel to the Big Apple Friday, January 27 to play New York University. Tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
