Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Sarah Hayes, a former Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year joins the Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball staff for her first season as full-time assistant coach in 2011. The four-time All-Ivy League player at Brown University also played professionally for five years in Germany.
Hayes comes to Carnegie Mellon after spending five years in Freiburg, Germany, where she played professional basketball for USC Eisvögel Freiburg from 2006 to 2011. During her time in Freiburg, Hayes led the team to three appearances in the league playoffs. She most recently was third in the league in points scored at 17.1 a game and second in steals at 2.8 a game. Additionally, she was nominated for the Freiburg Female Athlete of the Year in 2009.
Hayes’ passion for coaching became evident as she suggested on-court tactics and strategies to use against different offensive and defensive schemes while playing for Eisvögel. She also coordinated basketball clinics for school-aged children, found a location to hold the clinics and taught basketball to children who had not heard of the sport or knew how to play.
The 2006 graduate was the second player in Ivy League women’s basketball history and first at Brown to amass more than 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals for a career. The 2005-06 Ivy League Player of the Year was a two-time captain, led her team to the 2005-06 Ivy League Championship and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
The Beaufort, South Carolina, native graduated from Brown with degrees in psychology and history.

Tiffany Menhorn
Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Tiffany Menhorn joins the Carnegie Mellon women’s basketball staff as a part-time assistant coach for the 2011-12 season. A 2008 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (UPG) and three-time All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference first-team member, Menhorn finished her career as the second all-time leading scorer with 1,502 points.
Menhorn spent the 2010-11 season at the College of Mount St. Joseph, where she was the assistant women’s basketball coach and head women’s tennis coach. She had multiple responsibilities including on-court coaching, player development, academic tracking and advising, scouting, recruiting and pre-season conditioning.
Prior to last season, Menhorn spent two years at Allegheny College as the assistant women’s basketball coach and assistant women’s golf coach. She also spent her summers working various sport camps.
The two-year UPG captain received her bachelor of science degree in psychology and is currently working towards her MBA from Seton Hill University. Outside of collegiate coaching, she has volunteered her time in the community working clinics and make a difference days.
In addition to her basketball duties at Carnegie Mellon, Menhorn is teaching a variety of aquatics and fitness classes in the physical education department.
