McCloskey and Fatigati Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Nov. 5 – (DELAWARE, Ohio) – Junior hitter Aislinn McCloskey (Lafayette, La.) and senior defensive specialist Cara Fatigati (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team have earned Academic All-District recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District II which is comprised of non-NCAA Division I Colleges in the states of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

McCloskey earned second team honors while boasting a 3.96 GPA in chemical engineering and leads the team in hitting percentage (.301) and kills (295). She is a second-year athlete for the Tartans and earned second team All-UAA in 2008 along with All-Tournament recognition following her performance at the 2008 NCAA Regional hosted by Juniata. Off the court she has worked as a research assistant in the chemical engineering department and serves as a peer tutor for chemistry and chemical engineering thermodynamics. She has also served as a research assistant for Infant Cognition Lab. A member of the Society of Women in Engineering and Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society, she receives the Chevron U.S. REACH Scholarship and a National Merit Scholarship.

Fatigati was selected to the third team. She is a four-year player for the Tartans and a three-year starter who carries a 3.83 in business administration. She has received the Jerome J. Segal Endowment Scholarship for leadership in the classroom and extracurricular activities and served as the co-chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council in 2008-09. During her service, she helped initiate the first-ever Tartan Olympics after attending the NCAA Leadership Conference in 2008. She serves on the President’s Student Advisory Council, works as a TA and research assistant while volunteering at St. Clair Hospital for fundraising events. She has interned with Citigroup and Freddie Mac and has secured employment with Citigroup upon graduation.
