Dario Donatelli enters his 12th season as the head men's track and field coach in 2011. A 1981 graduate of Carnegie Mellon, Donatelli and his staff were named the 2007 and 2008 University Athletic Association Men's Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year after winning the UAA Outdoor Championships in both seasons.
The 2006-2007 men's track and field team had a breakthrough year when it finished third at the UAA Indoor Championships and brought home the title at the Outdoor Championships, marking its first title since 1993 and first-ever outright championship. Brian Harvey and Davey Quinn both earned All-America distinction; Harvey in the mile run (8th) at the indoor championships and Quinn (2nd) in the 1,500-meter race at the outdoor championships.
Harvey again competed at the national championships in 2008 and 2009, finishing second in the 5K in 2009. Additionally, the men's team broke 15 school records over two years including seven on the track.
As a 22-year coaching veteran, he has coached nine All-America athletes in cross country and 24 All-America athletes in track.
Donatelli's coaching success followed an outstanding collegiate athletic career. As a senior cross country runner at Carnegie Mellon, under retiree Gary Meckley, Donatelli earned All-America honors and led the Tartans to the NCAA Mideast Regional title. Donatelli was a three-time All-Mideast runner, four-time national qualifier and the Presidents' Athletic Conference Most Valuable Performer in 1980.
