Tom Nawrot
Assistant Swimming Coach
The 2011-12 season will be the first for Tom Nawrot as the assistant coach of the Carnegie Mellon University’s swimming and diving team. Nawrot is a 2009 graduate of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where he also served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.
While at TCNJ, Nawrot was a 13-time All-American and earned Collegiate Men’s Swimming Rookie of the Year honors in 2006. He currently holds six school records in events ranging from freestyle and backstroke to multiply relays. As a coach, he was responsible for developing a strategic plan for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons and wrote and ran various aspects of practice. He was involved in recruiting and helped develop a strength and conditioning program.
In 2010-11, Nawrot also assisted at South Brunswick High School with practice strategy, working closely with technique and stroke development. He was also an assistant coach for Nike Swim Camp for four years.
While a student at TCNJ, Nawrot served as the swim instructor for student activities and leadership development. He is also an American Red Cross Instructor of First Aid/CPR/AED/Oxygen administration and Professional Rescuing.
“We're excited to add Tom to the Tartans’ Swimming and Diving program for the upcoming 2011-12 season,” Kinney said. “Tom will be an excellent addition to our team, our department and the university community. Between his passion for the sports of swimming and diving and the top level experiences he has garnered as an athlete and coach at The College of New Jersey, Tom is a perfect fit for Carnegie Mellon and the goals of the program.”

Alicia Gorman
Head Diving Coach
Alicia Gorman enters her sixth season as Carnegie Mellon’s head diving coach. Gorman, who assisted the program during 2004-05 season, was honored by her peers as the 2009 UAA Men’s Diving Coach of the Year after junior Matt Kuhn earned his second UAA Men’s Diver of the Year accolade. In 2008, junior Charlotte Jennings earned All-America Honorable Mention on the 1-meter board at the NCAA Championships while 2007 marked the program’s first male diving championship in UAA competition. Kuhn, a freshman in 2007, was named Male Diver of the Year, helping Gorman earn Diving Coach of the Year honors.
Gorman is originally from Knoxville, Tenn. where she graduated from The University of Tennessee with a B.S. in sport management and a M.S. in human performance and sport studies with a concentration in sport administration. Alicia was a diver at UT for four years and qualified for the SEC Championships three years and the NCAA Zone meet all four years of competition. She was both a springboard and platform diver.
Her coaching background includes age group, high school, camps and collegiate experience. Gorman became the volunteer assistant coach for Tennessee while finishing her master’s degree and at completion became the program director and age group coach for Tennessee Diving, the competitive age group team in Knoxville. While program director at Tennessee, she developed and implemented a high school diving program for all high schools in the greater Knoxville area.
Gorman lives in Bethel Park, Pa., with her husband Tom and daughters Amelia and Chloe.
