Tartans Defeat St. Vincent 4-1

Sept. 3 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted the second day of the Radisson Invitational on Saturday, September 3.  The Tartans improved to 1-0-1 on the season with a 4-1 victory over the Bearcats of St. Vincent. The visitors are now 0-2 overall.

St. Vincent got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute when Justin Verneau took a cross pass from Anthony Balistreri and found the back of the net, as the Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

The Tartans were fast to respond when sophomore Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) had a turnaround in front of the net from 10 yards out and fired his shot past Bearcats' keeper Jake Gilbertson.  The goal in the 38th minute knotted the score at 1-1 heading into the break.

The Tartans took a 2-1 edge 2:56 into the second half when Wysocki scored on a penalty kick for his second goal of the game and what proved to be the game winner. 

Sophomore Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) added a goal in the 60th minute as senior Kyle Young (Bethel Park, Pa.) crossed the ball in front of the net and Tassano one-timed it past Gilbertson. The Tartans final goal of the game came on a turnaround rocket shot from 18 yards away off teh foot of senior Brad Edelman (Denver Colo./Cherry Creek). 

Carnegie Mellon dominated in shots tallying 36 to the Bearcats 5.  Gilbertson made 15 saves in net while Tartan junior goalkeeper Zach Stahl (East Brunswick, N.J.) had three.

The Tartans will next be in action on Friday, September 9 when they play Capital at 5:00 p.m. in the first day of the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament.
