Stats

Oct. 14 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team dropped a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest to University of Rochester by a 1-0 score on Friday, October 14, in Rochester, N.Y. The Tartans fall to 5-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in the UAA as the Yellowjackets move to 8-2-1 and 2-0-1 for the year.

A scoreless first half led to the second where the Yellowjackets were awarded a penalty kick in the 54th minute after a player was pulled down in the box reaching for a pass. Junior Jacob Seidlitz then placed his PK to the left for the go-ahead goal.

The PK would stand as the only goal of the game as Tartan freshman keeper Jacob Rice (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) stopped three shots by the home team in the second half while junior Alex Abedian (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) had an equalizing attempt go just wide in the final 30 seconds.

The Tartans also had three shots denied by Yellowjacket keeper Scott Garfing, all coming off the head or foot of sophomore Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion). Sophomore Tyler Rice (Palm Coast, Fla./Pendleton) had a shot hit the crossbar in the first half, nearly giving the Cardinal and Gray a lead at the break.

Carnegie Mellon will continue its road trip on Sunday, October 16, at Case Western Reserve University. The Spartans won a double-overtime contest at home Friday against Emory University 6-5 to move to 10-3 on the season.
